The cosmonauts were unsuccessful in docking with the Salyut 3 (Almaz) space station. Gyroscope problems almost prevented a proper orientation for reentry. They ended up landing at night during a lightening storm. Neither cosmonaut was to fly again, supposedly as a punishment for "poor performance". They have since been vindicated.
