The cosmonauts worked in the Salyut 6 space station. Docking took place at the aft docking port. The crew did inspect the forward docking port after the Soyuz 25 failure to dock but found no abnormalities. Grechko performed an EVA on 20 December. After he returned, Romanenko, who was also in the airlock, wanted to take a look outside. He pushed too hard getting into position and he lost his grip. Romanenko's safety line was not attached and he began to drift away. Grechko was able to grasp the line and pull Romanenko back to the station, narrowly averting a disaster.
