This was the third and final test of a Soyuz spacecraft. As before, there were problems with the attidude control system and excessive fuel consumption. The control system malfunctioned again during reentry, leading to a steep ballistic reentry. A 30 cm hole was burned in the heat shield. This would have been fatal to any occupants. The craft landed and sank in the Aral Sea, and had to be retreived by divers.
The dismal performance was deemed "good enough" for the planned docking of Soyuz 1 and Soyuz 2.
