This was the first flight of a Vostok spacecraft. The retro rocket was fired after 4 days in space and the descent module separated. However, the craft was in an incorrect flight attitude and re-entry did not go as olanned. In 1962, a 20 pound piece of the decent module landed in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA.
