This was a test of the inflatable airlock to be used for a spacewalk. The airlock test was a success, but sequential signals to deflate the airlock arrived simultaneously. The craft interpreted this as a command to decend and the vehicle began to tumble. A self-destruct iniated 29 minutes later, on the third orbit. Over 100 pieces of debris decayed between 31 March 1965 and 6 April 1965.
Since the mishap was caused by conditions which ciould have been prevented if a crew had been present, Voskhod 2 was allowed to fly.
