Location: Baikonur, Site 1/5
Date: 30 October 1967
Time: 08:12:41 UTC
Landed:
Date: 2 November 1967
Flight Duration:
~3 days
After the Soyuz 1 tragedy, it was decided to do more testing before the next manned flight. Kosmos 188 was launched as a passive target for Kosmos 186. Just 62 minutes after the launch of Kosmos 188, Kosmos 186 automatically docked with it. They remained docked for 3 and a half hours. It was not a total success, as the docking was mechanical only. Electrical docking was not achieved.
During descent, the self-destruct mechanism on Kosmos 188 was accidently initiated. There was no recovery.
